2024 Light Up the Season Parade | 6 pm, Thu., Dec. 5

I. Rules and Regulations. Failure to abide by any of the following rules and regulations may result in your group being ineligible to participate in both this year’s and next year’s parade.

II. Entry Categories. Entries must fit into one of the following three (3) categories with the described limitations:

A. Walking Group – Individuals moving together as a group by their own means or control such as but not limited to a marching band, dance team, color guard, or equestrian unit.

B. Bicycling Group Individuals moving together as a group through the use of traditional bicycles, electric bicycles, and other two-wheeled units.

C. Traditional Mobile Float: Defined as one towed trailer, flatbed truck, or other, single vehicle. Multiple mobile units are not permitted for this type of parade entry and must conform to the following specifications:

  1. Maximum width is eight and a half feet (8.5’)
  2. Minimum frame clearance to ground is ten inches (10”)
  3. Maximum height is fourteen feet (14’)

III. Entry Requirements:

A. Entries must be appropriate for a family audience.

B. Entries must be illuminated or lit.

C. Entries must follow parade load-in directions and route as provided via email upon confirmation and acceptance into the parade.

D. Entries must keep pace with the parade’s forward progress.

E. Entries offering candy must have walkers/escorts to provide the candy to parade spectators. It is unlawful for any individual to throw objects from a float, automobile, or animal during the parade. (see Moscow City Code10-17-15. F.)

F. Entries with animals must clean up all waste/manure from the parade staging area and route.

G. Entries will be ineligible to receive a “Best of” category and dismissed from the parade by City staff if any affiliated individuals are found to be consuming, in possession, or under the influence of alcohol and/or other controlled substances during their parade participation. This includes during the loading, staging, and progression of parade.

H. Entries are not permitted to have a Santa. Santa has agreed to fly in for the occasion and we want to keep his appearance special.

IV. Timeline Day of Parade:

A. 3:30 p.m. - Staging Begins. Individuals coordinating entry floats will be assigned one of four street entrances to load-in to the staging area, which includes the following:

  1. Second Street & Washington Street
  2. First Street & Jackson Street
  3. First Street & Washington Street
  4. “A” Street & Jackson Street

B. 4:30 p.m. - Judging Begins.

C. 6:00 p.m. - Parade Begins. Entries are to disperse after passing through Seventh Street to ensure all spectators experience each float entry.

Businesses with storefronts are invited to register as a DeLIGHTful Downtown contestant. This storefront decorating competition is part of the Light up the Season festivities. Registration closes at 5 pm Mon., Nov. 25 2024. For more information contact the Community Events Division at communityevents@ci.moscow.id.us or 208-883-7132.  

I. Judging. Storefronts will be judged on the following criteria using a Yes/No rating:

  1. The selected seasonal/holiday theme is apparent.
  2. The use of lights is prominent in the decorated storefront.
  3. The business utilized a significant portion of their available storefront for décor to dazzle judges and public.

II. Decor and Supplies. Contestants are responsible for their own lights, backdrops, extension cords, timers, platforms, supplies, decorations, etc. 

III. Display. Contestants must have their decorated storefronts on exhibit by Mon., Dec. 2 for the judging panel. 

IV. Public Voting. Four finalists will be selected for public voting. Finalists will be provided a sign to display with a QR code. Voting is open from 8 am Tue., Dec. 3 to Wed., Dec. 4, 8 pm.

V. Winning Finalist. The finalist with the most votes will claim the title ‘The Most DeLIGHTful Downtown Storefront’ and be announced at the main Light up the Season event on Thu., Dec. 5 at 6 pm. The traveling trophy with their engraved business name will be presented to the winner at a later date in December.
